Four Seasons Seychelles at Desroches Island

Four Seasons Seychelles at Desroches Island

Every week I get several emails from people asking me suggestions for their honeymoon… Since Seychelles is one of the most famous destinations for this type of tourism… I thought “maybe I should go there to be able to give you the best tips” ahahah.

The truth is… I love idyllic destinations and for so long I wanted to “lose myself” in the beauty of the Seychelles.

I decided to go and stay in one of the newest and most exciting luxury resorts in the world, the brand new Four Seasons Seychelles at DesRoches. The resort is located on the island of DesRoches, approximately 200km from the main island of Mahé. The island is practically private, the resort and private villas occupy much of the area of the island, yet it is possible to visit a small Creole village with no more than 50 habitants.

To travel to the island of Resroches it is necessary to take a plane and fly over the turquoise blue seas of the Indian ocean. It takes approximately 40 minutes of flight to reach this small island surrounded by corals. We landed on the island and the plane stops exactly in the hotel entrance, this is a dream! After a brief check-in accompanied by a refreshing natural juice, we went to our villa by from Golf cart.

The silence is absolute, you can only hear the small waves of the sea and some birds jumping from coconut to coconut. All 71 rooms have swimming pool and direct access to the beach from the private garden. I stayed in a Coral Beach Villa, the room is quite large, 65m2 with high ceilings in wood giving a rustic feeling, although you realize that everything is brand new. Nicely decorated in light tones with notes and details of exotic colors typical of a tropical country like the Seychelles. The King Size bed is one of the best where I slept … The bathroom, all of marble is huge, with bath and overlooking the gardens full of palm trees, the bathroom also has as an annex an indoor shower and another outside shower to take advantage of the surrounding area.

The room features a porch and a balcony on the top floor with comfortable sofas and incredible views to the garden, private pool and beach. My first few minutes here was lying in the hammock among the coconut trees enjoying the tranquility of this place. Each room has two bikes to explore the island by yourself, and that’s what I did, I put my feet on the pedal and I went through the 9km of deserted beaches of the island … And what beaches!!

I stopped at one of the most famous beaches in the country, Madame Zabre beach … I put my bike down and walked through the palm trees until I stepped on the white sand that looks like flour, to my surprise it was empty, completely empty! There I was… diving in that translucent sea, climbing coconut trees on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world that for moments was only ours. We continue to travel around the island, we pass by the village until we reached the turtles sanctuary. The giant tortoises of Aldabra are a protected species, yet here they are free to explore the island by their own. There are 150 turtles in the island … I found some swimming at the beach while having breakfast, but here in the sanctuary it is possible to be with them, touch them, they are very kind and always around you, especially if you give them herbs or fruit. Again, we were completely alone!

We returned to the resort to have lunch in the restaurant and main pool area. There are two restaurants in the resort … The “Claudine” is the main restaurant and offers incredible views of the beach, dishes inspired by Portuguese, Greek and Spanish cuisine for those who love the taste of Mediterranean spices. Another restaurant of the resort is “The Lighthouse” which as its name indicates is inserted in a lighthouse on the beach, here it is possible to delight yourself with seafood dishes and grilled organic meats. Also inserted at the top of the lighthouse is the Lounge, a very cozy space with fantastic views of the ocean, perfect for a drink in the late afternoon.

The “bar” is also another space where you can enjoy small and fresh dishes such as tuna salad (ate every day… it was so good!) And have your feet in the sand by the beach. Also for small and delicious snacks there is “The Deli”, a small cafe where everything is simple, tasty and transportable, either to eat on the beach or to take to your villa.

For those who like to do activities there are plenty of options, you can get lessons about the flora and fauna on the island, visit a very interesting “Discovery Center”, water sports like Kayak, Paddle-board, snorkeling and diving in several incredible spots, volleyball, a tennis court, a wonderful gym and a SPA to relax.

One of the moments I most enjoyed during my stay was the open air cinema … The resort has a list of several movies available. Under a starry sky, with popcorn we watched “Out of Africa!”.

Our stay was incredible… for many moments I had the feeling we were alone on the island, totally disconnected from the rest of the World. It is a perfect refuge for those looking to rest, tranquility and a direct contact with nature still with the concert and excellent service only Four Seasons can provide. Would have stayed longer but I had to leave, the Four Seasons Seychelles in Mahé was waiting for me and it looks to be as good as this … see the whole experience photos and video in this post.
