Pinal Del Rio – Viñales

Piñar Del Rio is the westernmost region of the island of Cuba. It is where abundant natural resources of rare beauty, such as the archipelago of Colorados (a coral reef 200km), the beach of Maria la Gorda (a paradise for divers), the valley of Viñales and the range of Guaniguanico. Besides these excellent natural attributes, Pinar Del Rio also has the most important part of the island’s tobacco plantation, from where the best tobacco leaves in the world, and also an important coffee and sugar plantation. Part of this region has been declared a Natural Reserve of the Biosphere by UNESCO (mountain range of the Rosary), because the area has some species of animals and plants native to the region.
We can also point out that Pinar Del Rio is a paradise for lovers of rural tourism practices, diving, hiking, fishing, etc.
Definitely Viñales was the area of Cuba that I liked the most. Viñales which is designated World Heritage by UNESCO, is the ideal place for travelers seeking the authentic Cuba. They say that here is made the best tobacco in the world. Surrounded by natural hills with round domes and rare forms called Mogotes , the town of Vinales is almost like a small town with houses, all with a porch, with Cuban families and tourists socializing in a contagious joy.
Other popular attractions in the region, beyond the valley, the mountains and mogotes, is the cave of the Indian, the first part of the visit is made by walking by the river. Then a small boat takes you to the interior of the cave. There are dozens of caves in the region, one even turns to a bar at night.
Cayo Levisa and Jutia are two beautiful islands that can be visited. Just one hour away from the Valley. The Viñales village is a picturesque and quiet place. I am sure that here you will live moments that you will hardly forget.
I spent my days here riding a horse, diving in lakes, drinking Mojitos, smoking cigars and eating reallyyyy wel. All of this surrounded by an extremely beautiful scenery.
A horse ride costs 10 € per hour and you can easily find, if you ask someone … I confess that in the beginning I was a bit afraid, but after two mojitos, I start thinking I was Indiana Jones! Take money with you for drinks and cigars, put on Swimwear and a hat to protect you from the sun.
Although it is not in Vinales, for those who like waterfalls, I advise to visit the Soroa waterfall. Located in Soroa, 90 km’s before Vinales, the waterfall is just over 15 minutes walk from the road. The cost is 3CUC to enter but very worth it … has more than 20 meters and you can go into the water while drinking a fresh Pina Colada prepared for you by a local that is always there.
