5 Days at Cannes Film Festival

Cannes Film Festival – João Cajuda – Blog Travel
As some of you know, the movie “Goodnight Cinderella” by Carlos Conceição was nominated in the Critics Week at the Cannes Film Festival. It was the only portuguese film that was competing in the edition of this year … in addition of being very proud of it, I was happy to have the opportunity to go to the festival. Here are some photos of my experience at the biggest film festival in the world and tips of what you can do when you visiting this picturesque town on the Cote D’Azur.
Cannes is a beautiful city, very similar to Estoril in Portugal, although the bustle in the streets and the expensive shops gives you the assurance that you are in the French Riviera.

When we think of Cannes, we think the film festival, expensive cars, Hollywood actors, caviar and champagne on the beach, Hotel Carlton … Well, naturally, I found it all, but Cannes is much more than that and also offers an affordable alternative to all budgets.
Cannes is a small municipality with a population of 70,000 inhabitants. The city center is small enough to walk around to all the places you should visit and see.

Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes
The architecture of the Festival Palace would not win any beauty contest and the building is at its best when it is decorated for the festival. The truth is that once they put the red carpet and spotlights are on, here is where it all happens. The cinema has these things, it’s magical … and if there film fans, I assure you that they are all here. Thousands of people everywhere … starting with the battalion of photographers who camp in front of the staircase, all with a ladder to be sure they catch every moment. If there are many people who are here on business, there are also many who only come to see … starting with those who aspire a chance to see their idols. The competition is hardcore, and some people fight to get out in front of the crates when Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie get out of the car in hopes of getting a picture with them.
Here at 10:00AM you can see people dressed with evening gown walking down the street or taking breakfast on the beach. For me it seemed a little ridiculous, but I soon realized that the festival, more than a gathering of movie lovers is a non-stop party. The city, especially in this time of year has a very lively life, full of chic bars, fine restaurants and attractive shops! Special care for those who have a wife or girlfriend … eliminate this area of the map or you might risk having to sell your house, the car and the dog to be able to pay the shopping eheh.
Time flies here, had so much to do and so many films that I wanted to see that I forgot to eat.

Le Marché Forville
If you like to start the day buying fresh and regional food then you should visit Le Marché Forville, a market in Cannes. Open every day of the week except Mondays.
At the corner of the market you can find Astoux Brun et L ‘Annex: A point not to be missed for all lovers of oysters. Well worth a visit. Astoux et Brun also has another restaurant down the street Félix Faure. While you’re in this area, I recommend you floor the narrow, winding streets and steep ranging from Le Suquet to the church where you can enjoy panoramic views of Cannes and the sea.

Porto Velho. A vista das colinas de Le Suquet
Here you will also find the Musée de la Castre. Installed in the Chapel of Santa Ana on top of Le Suquet, XII century, the Castre Museum displays paintings of the nineteenth century by local artists, a good collection of musical instruments, sculptures, decorative arts, and a section on ethnography. Also find ancient Pacific Islanders, Southeast Asia, South America, and Mayan civilizations.

Plage du Midi
Cannes beaches are small, golden sand, clear and green waters. All of them have a support bar, many of them exclusive which does not allow access to everyone unless you pay an entrance fee. All beaches are clean in the morning.
